100 Word Challenge Week #1

Sunshine, Ice, Frightened, Purple, Flew

I was standing on the edge of the ice glacier with my friend, waiting for the sun to rise over the other glaciers of ice. I was very frightened that I was going to fall off the edge into the icy water and probably with my luck I will hit the only piece of ice in the whole ocean for all I know. A purple bird flew in the way of the inevitable sunrise, and behind it revealed the sunshine. Underneath our feet the ice was beginning to melt a tiny bit for this surprisingly hot day, we bot slipped and started falling down below.

BTN Seed Bank-Persuasive

http://www.abc.net.au/btn/story/s4425890.htm

I believe this is a very good use of money because it will prepare us for what happens next because we NEVER know what’s going to happen, NEVER. So I think it is always a great idea to have those extra backups and it’s not doing us any harm is it? And as it said we may use this in the case of natural disasters, global warming, war, pollution, etc. and this happens very often. So think about it for a minute, a worldwide nuclear outbreak happens, every country is getting bombed, Suddenly there Is no plant life remaining and your just left with dead radiated animals, but have no fear because the seed bank is here and you can start making crops and rebuilding a society, of course this is unlikely to happen, but ANYTHING can happen! And it can’t cost that much of the world wides approximately 80 Trillion dollars, can it?

Natural Disaster Summary

A Natural Disaster is an unexpected case of extreme devastation affecting our environment and lives negatively or another definition is that Natural Disasters is any catastrophic event cause by nature or the natural processes of earth. This can have a massive toll on how we live,  this can be life-threatening and can destroy communities and cities. Natural disasters can come from land, water & the sky, this makes natural disasters different from what weather is since that natural disasters can come from the land & water. Natural disasters can be so devastating that no one is safe from one and can ruin lives. ALTHOUGH these catastrophic events are not classified as a Natural Disaster if these occur in unpopulated areas of the world because it won’t be classified as a disaster due to it not really affecting anything valuable.

Some examples of a natural disaster is a Tsunami, a tsunami is a gigantic wave created by earthquakes, landslides, meteorites, etc. the highest one that WAS a natural disaster was 100ft high. This is natural disaster because not only does it kill many people and the most lethal killing 230,000 people but they tear down buildings drift cars away ruining basically everything and causing a flood afterwards, sounds like a natural disaster to me!

Another example is Earthquakes, Earthquakes are measured in magnitudes the highest being 9.5 in Chile. Earthquakes occur by the plates of earth in the ground cracking causing the ground to shake this can tear down building and rip giant tears in the ground, definitely a natural disaster.

There are also hurricanes, hurricanes is a spinning storm that occur in places that are near water that are made up of clouds with high speed winds and rain. The fastest a hurricane has ever travelled was 300kmh. These can pull don’t building make trees fall loss of cars and property and tearing of part of buildings, this is a natural disaster.

Goals For Term 3

Unit Goals: Extreme Weather

As a result of this unit, I will

Unit Learning Goal 1: Science

I will understand that sudden geological changes or extreme weather conditions can affect Earth’s surface: in the context of Tsunamis & Cyclones/Hurricanes.

Unit Learning Goal 2: Science

I will pose questions to clarify practical problems or inform a scientific investigation, with guidance, on tsunami’s & Hurricanes/ Cyclones.

Unit Learning Goal 3: Science

I will compare data with predictions and use evidence in developing explanations on my research of tsunami’s & cyclones/hurricanes.

Unit Learning Goal 5: Reading and viewing

I will Identify and explain how analytical images like figures, tables, diagrams, maps and graphs contribute to our understanding of verbal information in factual and persuasive texts.

Unit Learning Goal 6: Writing

I will Plan, draft and publish imaginative, informative and persuasive texts, choosing and experimenting with text structures, language features, images and digital resources appropriate to purpose and audience

Personal Learning Goals: During this unit, I will . . .

I will attempt to present my work better to an audience making it interesting and engaging while I still have all of the research and the facts. I will also try not to procrastinate and leave everything to the last minute!

BTN Voting

I believe that liberals should have won the election for one reason and one reason only, because they are focusing on STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). I believe this is a great idea because it helps our world excel and in the end if you are an author or you do sports in the end that is not going to have a big effect on anything and with STEM it could solve many of the world’s problems that we are having (Natural Disaster, Global Warming, Overpopulation, etc.) Also what keeps our world going is money and jobs, and this is what the liberals is aiming for, because in the end, nothing else will matter.
